Dateline: above the garage in Portsmouth RI, 5 May 2005
Day to catch up on family finances, contemplate putting out more for the house we want in Indiana, do a bunch of cleaning, and playing a bunch with Jerry, my five-year-old. Now off to work model with elder son Kevin; a TIE fighter from the Star Wars series. Since I'm flying tomorrow, I yield to the usual temptation of leaving blogging and whatnot for the flights. As we've gone up in our price limit for this trip, fairly committed to finding something tomorrow. We're looking at the five houses we're willing to consider, based on past efforts, what we've learned about the area, and tons of Internet research by my spouse.
Mark is still editing Esquire piece. We spoke again today and will probably do so again late tonight. Last night I wrote for him four segments between 2330 and 0130, and he was there in his office to receive them! He is scary when he gets like this: totally absorbed.
Interesting blog notice sent to me by Mark Safranski, where someone is describing network attacks in the style of PNM. It's pretty cool and it's found at tdaxp. What this blogger is doing, whether he or she realizes it or not, is translating an implied concept from PNM that I explore a bit in BFA: what it might look and feel like if a state learned to fight 9/11-like. Commentary interesting as well. Thanks to ZenPundit for the lead.
Below is the text of the notice on my talk next week in DC at Ronald Reagan (one way cool theater). The day before I am set to sit down and meet with two very interesting DC heavyweights: Sen. John Kerry in the morning and Andrew Natsios, head of the U.S. Agency for International Development, in the afternoon. After the Highlands Forum last week, this is beginning to feel like a nice roll. With that kind of interest from such powerful people, it's getting harder to not allow myself to be overtaken by events, meaning I always need to be thinking not about the popularity of the last big concept generated, but what needs to be the next one.
On that score I am feeling great about BFA. In conversation after conversation since I finished the main text, I find myself adding parenthically, "and I write about that in the second book," which is a good feeling--hands down.
Here's the text from the announcement:
