No big surprise on Iranian hostages

Tehran makes its point, gets its attention, and now seems reasonable and merciful in comparison to the West and local crazies.

In the end, a pure PR exercise and another example of Iran's proxy warfare against our proxies--just like last August.

No harm, no fouls, no progress.

Just more disrespect for the post-presidency of Bush.

"No...nothing to see here. Move along! Nothing to see here!" Pshaw!

I think your analysis is intentionally missing the point in support of your overarching advocacy of engagement with Iran (which I happen to agree with). This debacle only served to illustrate how fractured the decision-making process is within the Iranian government. The capture of the British sailors was understandable. Holding them for an extended period, while considering the prospect of a show trial gives the impression of a dysfunctional regime. There's a time for engagement, but the current crisis shows that Iran is not yet ready for that step.
