Message and tactic

ARTICLE: At Iowa Event, Clinton Vows Pre-Inauguration Diplomatic Push, By Anne E. Kornblut and Dan Balz, Washington Post, September 17, 2007; Page A02

Great campaign message and sensible post-win tactic to tie Bush's hands ASAP. It wouldn't surprise me whatsoever for that crew to commit the U.S. militarily on Iran just like H.W. did to Bill on Somalia.

"...like H.S. did to Bill on Somalia."

That's a pretty uncalled for shot at Bush Sr. Being near the end of your term does not obviate a President's responsibility to do what's right. It was an appropriate response to a humanitarian disaster. I can understand your frustration with the current administration, but this was an intellectually clumsy example to choose. Unfortunately, it's becoming a more characteristic feature of your blog posts over the past 1-2 months.

First time I have heard anyone bring up the senior Bush's "humanitarian" mission in Somalia. You are right, it was an unusual move by a lame duck president to commit an American military force overseas. The "humanitarian" motive was pretty transparent and it seemed obvious that we wanted a footprint in the "Horn". As I recall the Dems mad no real objections at the time, apparently flummoxed by the photos of starving children in the Somalian desert. A lot can happen in the next 487 days.
