Picked up a copy in DTW airport tonight on way home from Oak Ridge.
Sections on Bush era, midterms, prez race, Iraq and "America in an Uncertain World."
I'm listed first there for "The State of the World."
Chris Jones on McCain in the prez race section is the only Esquire article.
With me in the "World" section are:
Seymour M. Hersh New Yorker "The Redirection"James Fallows
Atlantic Monthly
"Declaring Victory"Thomas L. Friedman
New York Times Magazine
"The Power of Green"Nobel Laureate (Econ) Daniel Kahneman and grad student Jonathan Renshon
Foreign Policy
"Why Hawks Win"
Sniff! Nada for Foreign Affairs ... :-(
Editor Royce Flippin, in his preface, writes:
Military expert Thomas P.M. Barnett's "The State of the World," reprinted from Esquire magazine, is a must-read for anyone who wants to get up to speed quickly on the multiple global challenges that our country will be facing over the next few years.
In the intro to the piece:
Global geopolitics is a staggeringly complex business, especially as seen from the perspective of the quote-unquote world's only remaining superpower. For the average person, simply trying to keep all of the world's actors straight can be a mind-scrambling exercise. Luckily, former Naval War College professor Thomas P.M. Barnett does the heavy lifting for us in this Esquire piece--his third article on international affairs to appear in this anthology--as he attempts to surmise what the future will hold for American foreign policy. Whether or not you agree with his conclusions, you're sure to find Barnett's tour of the world's flashpoints both engaging and illuminating in the extreme.
Very cool to be included with such company.
And a fun treat to find after a tough day.

I loaned my copy of PNM to 2 friends in hope of creating some new disciples. I will get them copies of Esquire also. Intelligent people who have been relying on the current vaudeville shows that pass for news coverage. They were very happy with the book and now when we get together they will ask me "What does Tom Barnett think about this or what does he think about that." Don't worry, after I get them hooked I will make them buy their own copies.

Congrats Tom. Let us know when you're in DTW again and I'll buy you lunch. I have a close contact at American too - maybe get your flight a free upgrade or two! ;-)
