Naval strategy and Roughead

ARTICLE: New U.S. naval strategy: Preventing wars, AP, Oct 17, 2007

Very cool to see, remembering the fights we had over "From the Sea."

What goes around comes back around, and thank God..

Mullen was a good CNO in this regard, with his "1000-ship" vision (in effect--I've got 200-plus and need to network 700-plus from all my friends in this world), and Roughead will be even better.

I got the chance to meet Adm. Roughead when he brought me to Pearl to address his component commander's conference. We went offline for a bit on a few of his choice stories on pushing SysAdmin-style naval ops in the Pacific. Fascinating stuff at the bureaucratic hoops he had to jump through. Roughead ran PACFLEET during the Christmas Tsunamis and did some stellar work on that, so I look forward greatly to his time as Chief of Naval Operations.

Kevin, my son, BTW, got a command coin from Roughead that he still treasures.

I had to ASK for one later because Roughead gave him mine!

Great to hear ... as is the apparent continuity between Mullen and Roughead. The bad news is that it is also another example of action in the leadership/diplomacy vacuum left by the current administration.
