The Map at State

ARTICLE: Foreign affairs booster kicks off mini-tour in Seattle, By ANDREA JAMES, Seattle Post-Intelligencer, October 10, 2007

Remember when Tom wrote about the State Department asking permission to use The Map? Here's an article about the tour they're using it on, and here's the slide they're using:

So that official, Assistant Secretary of State Daniel Sullivan, is on a mini-domestic tour to promote free trade and tout the Bush administration's commitment to foreign aid.

This proves Tom's achieved his goal of a reproducible strategic concept, something he described in PNM.

That was a great read and encouraging to see Tom's work in demand. Besides the cool slide they're using, it gave me a few thoughts:
1. The Free Trade Agreements with Columbia, Panama, Peru and S. Korea are great news. Even if they have been covered here before, they're worth celebrating again (and worth supporting through the approval process.)
2. Only someone from the State Dept. could think that college students are 'unvarnished'! ;)
3. Tom needs to speak at colleges more. Perhaps somewhere near Detroit would be a good place to start.
4. 24 year old Kelly Voss actually learned something today! Yippie for grad school! ;) j/k
5. Does anyone know how to get a hold of Assist. Sec. Dan Sullivan's office? I'd like to sit in on one of his presentations if he swings by my area...

Reading more about Daniel Sullivan, it seems like his experience lines right up with a good Sys-Admin perspective. From his Bio on the State Dept.'s site: "He focused on international trade and intellectual property rights issues, as well as international economic summits, including the G-8, Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), and the Summit of the Americas. A Marine Corps infantry and reconnaissance officer, Mr. Sullivan was recalled from the reserves to active duty service from January 2005 until April 2006 and served as a Strategic Advisor and Special Assistant to the Commander of U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), spending substantial time deployed in the CENTCOM theater of operations."

Congratulations. Good to see PNM marching through the halls of government.
