Good news on Petraeus

ARTICLE: Petraeus Helping Pick New Generals, By Ann Scott Tyson, Washington Post, November 17, 2007; Page A01

Obviously, a very good sign for the future.

It'll be interesting where Petraeus goes after this command. Slots in JCS seem jammed up, time-wise, for his next go-around. If Fallon's had enough after 40 years when he finishes two years at CENTCOM in the spring of 2009, then that's the obvious bump-up. He'd then be free to take the Chairman's job when Mullen gets long ...

I'm very happy to see this development for Petraeus, because it means probable career advancement for a lot of special personnel who need to move up to continue change within the Army. Plus, by signaling this within Army, Gates sends big signals (and one assume he was key to this unprecedented step, thus signaling his strong desire to signal strongly about where he thinks things need to go).

That and the Packers' win make for a fine day of news.

(Thanks: Brad Lena (and others, including me, so stop sending it! ;-)
