Back in the saddle ...

Updating my Jordan trip: I actually go stuck overnight in JFK-segueing-to-LaGuardia Tuesday night, getting home Wednesday at noon, which made for a 48-hour return trip.

I slept five hours that afternoon, then got up and drove five hours to Clarksville TN, so I could get up seven hours later to give a talk to kick off a conference on state-building they were having. Since my luggage was lost, I was at the mercy of the local AV guys, who had an adapter for my Mac but no good clicker, thus I stood at the podium, which I hate, and key clicked the whole brief. Small audience of academics and military officers from Fort Campbell. They seemed to like and my 26 signed poster maps went like hot cakes.

Five-hour drive right after that to take Vonne out to fancy, Valentine's Day dinner in Indy.

Up Friday I feel terrible. When Mei Mei is diagnosed that afternoon with strep throat, I contact my doc with symptoms and get on some antibiotics. I spend the rest of the day catching up on newspapers in my brain stupor.

Today I wake up feeling okay, so I tackle Chapter Four on Bush-Cheney. I review notes and organize a structure for the chapter, and then crank 2500 before bagging it for a movie in the home theater with the kids.

Back at it tomorrow.

Total word count now between 25-26,000.

Tom:

What's the bigger picture with Kosovo declaring independence? Aside from the typical geopolitical arguments, is there a strory about globalization here? I've often felt that g'zation has both centripetal and centrifugal forces to it and that they're both getting stronger. Of course John Robb thinks the centrifugal forces will eventually win and the whole thing will spin apart. What are your thoughts?

Speaking of traveling...

Totin' my old .44
Where you sleep out every night
And the only law is right
Back in the saddle again."

"Take the last train to clarksville,
And Ill meet you at the [airport].
You can be be there by four thirty,
cause I made your reservation.
Dont be slow, oh, no, no, no!
Oh, no, no, no!"
