Japan gets more American, around the edges

SPECIAL REPORT: "Going Hybrid: A special report on business in Japan," by Tom Standage, The Economist, 1 December 2007.

Recalling the Baumol et. al book on types of capitalism today, this special report suggests that Japan is moving toward the successful U.S. model that sits astride big company capitalism and entrepreneurial capitalism, where Taiwan and Israel have long thrived and where China has been heading for a while as well.

To the extent that Japan joins China and Taiwan in this migration, the chances for future Asian conflict get amazingly small.

And that is a very good thing.

I have posted on the changes in Japanese business previously, and from the perspective of someone on the ground--specifically in a three part series published at Asia Business Intelligence. For interested readers, I have new post up that refers to the relevant links.

Best Regards!

thanks, Shawn!
