Bush's only hope for a positive foreign policy legacy

OP-ED: US edges closer to engaging Iran By M K Bhadrakumar, Asia Times Online, Apr 12, 2008

Some interesting stuff. The one real hope Bush has for a lasting positive foreign policy legacy is some shocking breakthrough on Iran. Israel, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Lebanon--everyone is ripe for this.

Truman left office with the blame from all political & academic sides for:
- starting an unnecessary & expensive Cold War with Russia
- excessive aid & kindness to those German & Japanese bad guys
- abandoning ally Chaing's China to Commies
- blundering into Korean War
- chickening out on Korean War and dumping heroic general Mac.

Making legacy forecast in today's IW era is probably more difficult.

I would hope we have a multi pronged approach to Iran. Talks and discussions; supporting anti-government movements in Iran; military action as a real possibility.

I might add that I like Hillary's MAD declaration. (Mullah Assured Destruction)

When it comes to discussions, it has to be noted that the European's tried discussions with Iran and got nothing for their efforts. But, I do think we need to try to engage to see if the Mullahs will meet us half way.
