Recent books read (3 of 7): Robin Wright's "Dreams and Shadows"

Subtitle is "the future of the Middle East."

Great bit on "pyjamahedeen."

Also like the "peaceful empowerment" logic that is taking root and threatening the old order in the region.

Key quote:

Impatience and frustration, fueled by education, technology and the miracle of instant media, demographics, globalization, and change elsewhere in the world have altered the equation.

Notice how she doesn't cite oil, U.S. military presence, Iraq or Israel as the big causes?

It's the difference between proximate excuses and ultimate causes.

If there is anyone with true insight as to the purpose we went into, and remain, in Iraq, it is Robin Wright

If we went there in error, she will also know the underlying causes, not just the proximate trigger for that action.

She will know if something is afoot.

I just heard a three hour interview with her on the Hugh Hewitt show from a March podcast. While she differs from your view that the "Big Bang" in the Middle East was worth supporting, her commentary and opinions echoed the need for Connectivity in that part of the world. When asked what can be done to help, wide spread internet access, education and I think trade were tops on her list.

Hour 1 Hour 2 Hour 3

Hopefully you can get to do another chapter-by-chapter interview on his show when the book comes out. I'm finding myself agreeing with his guest authors more than him, but he's fair, has read the books and really lets the authors go in depth.

Just don't call her Princess Buttercup?
