ARTICLE: US global dominance 'set to wane', BBC, 21 November 2008REPORT: GLOBAL TRENDS 2025: THE NATIONAL INTELLIGENCE COUNCIL'S 2025 PROJECT, NIC, November 2008
Disappointing to see the NIC default to resource wars as a generalized bit of futures fear-mongering. It's just so unimaginative and reflects the NIC talking to a lot of stale academics who trot out their analogies to 19th-century colonialism and balance-of-power politics while completely discounting the profound economic--and especially financial--interdependence (the latter currently on display big time).
Not very helpful in terms of preparing people for the real dynamics ahead.

Seems like the NIC needs to pre-order Great Powers, too!

Every world power wanes eventually because the lessons of history are never retained. Dose it have to be that way? One wouldn't think so with the advent of currant and future technology the mistakes of the future/past could be kept in the forefront almost like real time to disseminate the consequences of foolish policies. Aahh but alas mankind will never change because the power brokers of any given period are to steeped in greed to care.

The NIC report provides a reasonable summary of major trends now in evidence, which is all the report claims to do. These kinds of "trends" reports tend not to be imaginative or experimental, nor do they venture too far out on the speculative limb. That's not really their purpose.

Come on Tom, you know those flags are just signaling everyone that we have begun change to next phase!

The NIC lost something after Dave Gordon left.
