Critt:
Got 20 mins until last quick radio of morning, and then I prep for 2 hour brief to senior worldwide execs of Royal Dutch/Shell here in NYC.
Got more than one Roland Dobbins-like plea to forego biting back on the ankle-biters, and yes, I am listening.
Trick is this: the thin-skin is how I read rooms and audiences so well. It's how anyone who spends a lot of time onstage, like I did last night at the 92nd StreetY here in Manhattan, manages to stay in-tune with his listeners/viewers/readers. It's an important skill set you cannot lose, even as you need to master your natural instincts to respond negatively to negativity. Returning fire, when done well, is great, because it forces you to improve the material.
But like I am beginning to learn on military interventions in general, sequencing is everything. Time and a place for all.
So I get older and smarter. Big deal! So does everyone else.
I just have plenty of interested parties trying to help me out in that endeavor, and for that I am truly grateful.
I've spent a career trying to tell powerful people stuff they don't want to hear, so I appreciate readers' willngness to speak up and tell me where I go wrong. Feedback is the most valuable human resource on the planet. It costs a lot to give (the useful stuff, that is), and far less to receive. So keep it coming I appreciate the commitment to the message that it represents. I seek to honor it, therefore, through self-improvement.
I just won't pretend I'll always get it right from here on out!
Bad days are bad days. My lesson here: don't blog with a migraine.
Critt: Don't let me post with one!
Posted for Thomas P.M. Barnett. And I'm gonna hold his feet to the fire with this one.. . . . ..
