Fortunately, the blog is not my day job...

ARTICLE: "No Day at the Beach: Bloggers Struggle With What to Do About Vacation," by Elizabeth Holmes, Wall Street Journal, 31 August 2006, p. B1.
Article says there are 13m bloggers in the U.S. today, but only 13% post every day. Then there is the very tiny crew of bloggers whose main job is blogging, thus the fear of losing readers or--worse!--advertizers during any break.

Fortunately, I don't make a dime off this, so I don't worry.

Have a nice holiday. Don't worry. All these issues we love to explore will still be here on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, I have all sorts of fun stuff to pursue with the family, a cold to process, some chores around the house (remaining pictures to hang!), some pool time at Nona's--the usual.

Feel like crap now from the cold, but the Pack's playing at 4pm, so I expect enough recovery to have a beer or two...

Comments

The way the Packers have been playing lately, I suggest having much more than two beers.

Anyway, hope you enjoy the brief vacation!

I'm sure that the Wall Street Journal and other mass media would prefer for bloggers and small internet news outlets to disappear altogether. Big advertisers have all had to shift from the traditional forms of advertising to the internet more and more every year. The WSJ also forgot about the existence of free blog aggregator clients like BlogBridge, which make it highly unlikely that your readers will just quit reading your posts forever if you skip a few days.

Some news organizations and individual columnists have adjusted better than others to the internet. Those that view the internet as competition rather than a broadcast medium should consider what their second careers will be.
