Another sign of China's rising global content exporting prowess--and power

ARTICLE: "As the Fashion Scene Emerges in China, Along Comes Du Juan: The Beauty From Shanghai Is Runway Star in New York; A Face of Things to Come," by Vanessa O'Connell and Cui Rong, Wall Street Journal, 8 September 2006, p. A1
The WSJ still outperforms the NYT on China because the NYT sees mostly just the bad, while the WSJ see the upside too.

Chinese like the Western look because it's rare there, but the same logic holds true for China's appeal to the rest of the world.

Watch this process unfold. Today Japan defines global cool better than any society, including the U.S., given all the anti-American feeling we face abroad. But watch China subtly supplant that role more and more, relying on tutelage from South Korea, whom Chinese society uses as a model for what "grown up" Asian people should look and act like.
